Privacy policy

Pinpointer is a browser extension made by Jerôme Naglé that lets you mark elements, areas, text and pages on websites and copy them, with your notes, as context for an AI assistant. This policy explains what it reads, where that is kept, and how to delete it.

In short

Pinpointer keeps everything on your device. It sends nothing to any server. There is no account, no analytics, no tracking and no third party.

What Pinpointer reads

Pinpointer reads page content only while you have it turned on, and only to show you what you are pointing at and to build your notes. While it is off, it runs on no page.

When you link something to a note, Pinpointer saves:

  • From an element or an area: its CSS selector, text, role and name, the React component names and source file where the page exposes them, computed styles, position and size, its HTML, and the URLs of any images inside it.
  • From a quote: the text you selected.
  • From the page it is on: its URL, title, description, canonical URL, language, viewport size and console errors.

It also saves what you type and choose: note text, tags, and settings such as the window's position, size and theme.

Pinpointer takes no screenshots and saves only the pages and elements you link. Text and HTML are saved as they appear on the page, so if you link something that shows personal information, that information is in your note.

Where it is stored

In your browser's local extension storage, on this device. It is not synced to other devices.

What is sent or shared

Nothing. Pinpointer does not transmit, sell or share your data, and does not use it for advertising, profiling or anything other than your notes.

Data leaves your browser only when you press Copy and paste the JSON somewhere yourself. From then on, the service you paste it into handles it under its own terms.

How to delete it

  • Clear in the Pinpointer window, or Clear all notes in its settings, deletes all your notes. Both ask you to confirm first.
  • Export all notes in the settings saves a backup file to your own device; nothing else is created.
  • Uninstalling Pinpointer deletes everything it stored.

Permissions

  • Storage: to keep your notes, tags and settings on your device.
  • Clipboard write: to put the JSON on your clipboard when you press Copy.
  • Scripting: to add Pinpointer's page scripts to your open tabs when you turn it on, and remove them when you turn it off.
  • Context menus: to add the Pinpointer items to the right-click menu.
  • Access to all sites: so you can mark elements on any page you choose. Nothing runs on a page until you turn Pinpointer on.

Changes to this policy

When this policy changes, the new version is published at this address with a new date. A change to how your data is handled is posted here before it takes effect.
